Social Media: a Political Playground?

You know that whole trend that’s happening at the moment, when someone posts something about an issue, then everyone jumps on it? Now all of a sudden, every social media user is seeing this same post.

Well it’s a whole thing in the internet world. And it is called social network revolutions.

Back in the days of legacy media, the information that was presented to you was intentionally spoken in a way that makes to think a certain thing.

Richard Senett says on the legacy media; “You’ve got to be silent to be spoken to. Passivity is the logic of this technology.”

Now it is believed that social media is going to change the way the world works.

Social media is becoming a political playground; where not only politicians are speaking on it, but everyday people like you and me. Everyone now is entitled to speak their opinion, but no longer is anyone actually willing to listen — we are all guilty in some way.

This is why;

  • Fast mobilisation — think immediacy
  • Mass involvement — think logic of aggregation
  • Scalable openness — think open source needs.

It is now so easy to get people involved in different causes. Take the Paris attacks in 2015. #prayforparis was trending for weeks, and these posts were everywhere…

Everyday, every minute, new causes are trending. This is social network revolution.
