Where is the legacy media going?

I do not watch the news anymore, nor do I read the newspaper, and yet I am still informed on the happens of the world. 20 years ago, if someone didn’t watch the news or read the newspaper, they would have no idea of what is happening in the world.

So how can it be now that I can still be made aware of the goings on of the world?

Over the past 10 years, how news consumption has decreased rapidly. No longer are people willing to sit in front of the TV, or patience enough to read the newspaper. Now everything is so fast paced. Fast internet, fast food, fast problem-solving. Our culture, altogether, has become impatient .

We are now steering away from ‘Legacy Media’ channels such as; News channels, TV programs, magazines, etc. We are now heading toward a Distributed Media channel.

What does this mean?

Well for our media to be distributed does not mean that we evenly distribute it. It actually means that everyone can make their own announcements. The consumers now become the produser.

Rather than someone gatekeeping all the information that is shown as content, anyone can post anything. For example; if someone was to see a celebrity doing something scandalous, they could then tweet about it. Just the one account could seem untrustworthy. However, if there were multiple recounts of the same event. This then shows this can be more trustworthy.

Instead of having to believe what the ‘powers to be’ tell us to believe, we can find this information for ourselves.
