Hey Google, please don’t steal all my data!

A couple of days ago, my dad came home. When he walked in the door, before he said I to any of us, he said “Hey Google, I’m home…” and she immediately says “Welcome home Darren.” started playing music for him… Weird I know. But this actually a small part in a very large web of technologies in the internet of things. (IoT)

The internet of things is defined as “a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. “

So what does all this mean for our future? Well I’m not sure… The thing is, it isn’t just your phone or your computer that is connected to the internet of things. It is so many more things than you could comprehend…

  • Cars are now sending out possible appointments for the specific problem in your car that you refuse to admit is a problem.
  • TV’s are sending data to be analysed.

I’d like to think that all my information is being sent to some cloud in the sky that no one has access to.

Clearly this is my ignorant self coming out.
